UDM-Pro integrates all current and upcoming UniFi controllers with a security gateway, 10G SFP+ WAN, 8-port Gbps switch and off-the-shelf 3.

When comparing udm-le and udm-utilities you can also consider the following projects: split-vpn - A split tunnel VPN script for the UDM Pro with policy based routing. The feature set of the combined use of these technologies can easily save you tens of thousands of dollars in paid hardware and software, and I highly recommend both of them.Udm pro site to site vpn Next, open a terminal in your downloads directory and use SCP to copy the OVPN file onto the UDM Pro. Including my Captive Portal for WiFi and general use acceptance policies. After the Endian my traffic passes through Untangle, set up in transparent bridge mode, where it doesn't accomplish any NATing, but runs all the filters I enjoy.

I use Endian as my Routing Gateway, which runs IPS, Spam Filtering, and RBL's. There are many other features provided in Endian that are either not included in Untangle, or require the paid version of Untangle.Īll that being said, I have decided I do not like either one better than the other, I actually implemented both. This is a feature (until now) I required the use of the paid WebSense Email Filtering software. It allows the use of RBL's (realtime blacklist lists) for emails, something Untangle does not. Spam filtering is incredible if set up correctly. On top of this outstanding firewall is an equally outstanding Email Proxy. It is comparable to Cisco's Stateful Packet Inspection Firewall in their Integrated Services Routers. If you are looking to set up an entire gateway with robust firewall, spam filter, and proxy, it is going to take a lot longer than the same task in Untangle. Where it does not excel is configuration. Now, when it comes to Endian, it seems to excel in a few areas. It also has a great Intrusion Prevention System and Attack Blocker. That being said, I can't stress enough how easy Untangle is to set up.

I find other solutions such as PF Sense and Endian do a better job with routing and NAT than Untangle. Untangle is extremely easy to setup and can be used as a transparent bridge in which no routing or NAT is done. However, I definitely see a difference between the two. Untangle, ClearOS, Endian, and a couple others.Īs far as Untangle and Endian goes, they are my favorites so far. But I had to just weigh in as I have been playing with all of these. Our Exchange server is hosted so we don't have much use for that here. I like the anti-spam quarantine in Untangle. Maybe when my new samba DC is up and running (with LDAP) I'll be able to fine tune this but so far I'm happy. I still need to have the VPN server running (haven't had the time to set it up) and I haven't seen a way to map the actual user to the IP address but I'll stick with it for now. And the web proxy/content filtering option is just what I needed. I'm still the only user on it but I'm very happy with what I've seen so far. I Installed Endian 2 weeks ago and it's now connected to a spare DSL link we had.
#UNTANGLE FIREWALL VS SONICWALL FREE#
Mainly because the community version was free and had a web proxy in it, although, now that it's actually in place I'm not sure if it makes that much difference. Today I dropped in a box with Endian Community on it. I had problems with my network settings though and either from my lack of knowledge or poor understanding of the things, it just felt a little too complicated to get some things working. It's a very nice interface and I ended up liking the way it felt like a "real" server rack. I just looked at Untangle and thought it was too pretty. Untangle does take some times getting used to it. I must say I'm pretty impressed at the quality of the two interfaces. It's been quite a busy spring and I haven't had much time to do the testing but I finally could set up the two boxes and fiddle with them a bit. How did you do getting dirty with your firewalls?
